We wanted to reflect the cornerstones of Reinhard Ernst’s collection in the shop ranges. One of them is French Informel. While many of these artists such as Georges Matthieu chose darker colours, we decided to give our leather range a softer edge and thought that Camille Bryen’s subtle colour palette would lend itself very well to a range of accessories marked by high quality craftmanship and materials.
The touch of the leather is exquisitely soft, thanks to the sustainable dying process, which does not use any chemicals. In fact, the leather is completely biodegradable, something rather rare in the fashion industry.
Sustainability is at the core of Iria de Ana’s designs, with whom we worked to develop the collection. For both the Museum Reinhard Ernst and the Spanish designer, it was important ‘to stick as closely to nature as possible. We decided against so-called vegan leathers, which are anything but sustainable, since they are petroleum based. There is nothing more sustainable than real leather, tanned in an environmentally friendly way. Sustainability also means collaborating with local artisans and paying well their work.’
Each product is embossed with the museum’s logo. Not in a visually intrusive way, but with subtlety. Like in every other product we have developed for the museum, the attention is on the detail: from the logo to the beautiful cotton bags included as gift packaging, this collection is unique and the perfect gift idea for a loved one.
